Shinty is a big sport in Argyll and the Highlands. A traditional sport, it is similar to field hockey and closely related to hurling. One of the top teams is Kyles Athletic of Tighnabruaich and you can watch their matches at the pitch just up the road from The Hollies.

There are a number of golf courses close to The Hollies with the Kyles of Bute 9-hole course in the village being great fun with the most amazing views. Just put some money in the honesty box.

For a more leisurely time, Portavadie Marina has a spa plus indoor and outdoor pools. In the village, fishing from the pier is a popular pastime and fishing rods can be hired from Tam’s Tools. Further afield, you can try Quad biking, clay shooting and archery at Quadmania, near Dunoon. 

There are a number of great cycling routes with loops around Ardlamont, Portavadie and the challenging 30 mile Bealach Maim loop.
